Neha Fathima, a determined young woman from Bengaluru’s Kengeri area, has never allowed her circumstances to define her future. Growing up in a low-income household with a single mother and three sisters, Neha understood early on that education would be her path to a better life.
Her journey has been anything but easy. After completing her schooling at Nikita Public School with 68 percent, she went on to score 74 percent in her PUC and recently graduated with 82 percent in BCom. She is now working towards her dream of becoming a human resource professional in a reputed organization.
Neha lives with her mother and three sisters in a close-knit household. Her mother, a salesperson, has single-handedly raised the four girls, often making unimaginable sacrifices to ensure her daughters stayed in school. While many girls in their community are married off at a young age, Neha’s mother was firm in her belief that her daughters deserved an education. Her strength and resolve became the driving force behind Neha’s ambitions.
In 2023, Neha was selected as a beneficiary of the Manal Foundation’s education sponsorship program. The Foundation stepped in during a critical phase in her life, ensuring she had the resources and support to complete her final year of college without interruption. She credits Manal Foundation with being the turning point in her journey.
“Manal Foundation came into my life like a blessing,” says Neha. “It gave me the support I needed when I thought I might have to give up my studies. I truly believe that the Almighty sends people to guide others - and for me, Manal was that guidance.”
Neha’s success has had a ripple effect at home. Her two younger sisters have completed their 12th grade, and the youngest is currently preparing for her 10th standard exams. Inspired by Neha, they too are pursuing their education with confidence and focus.
Neha has a message for students who are considering dropping out of school due to financial or social pressures. Her message is simple but powerful:
Don’t give up. I know how hard it is. I’ve been there too. But education is what gives us choices. Even if you don’t have support, places like Manal Foundation are here to help.
Neha is currently seeking her first opportunity in the HR field while continuing to guide and motivate others. With quiet determination, she is saving each rupee she can to support her family and move one step closer to financial independence.
Looking ahead, Neha dreams of building a stable career and giving back to the very community that shaped her. But more than anything, she hopes to one day look into her mother’s eyes and say, “We made it.”
Her story is the proof that with the right support, young women like Neha can rise above circumstance and become change-makers.
